CeNTI -
The therapeutic footwear solution supporting post-stroke rehabilitation
CeNTI is participating in the SENSATO Project, which aims to develop an innovative therapeutic device to support the rehabilitation process of stroke survivors, with a particular focus on improving balance and gait.
SENSATO focuses on creating a footwear solution capable of monitoring balance parameters and key gait variables through the integration of flexible sensors and miniaturised Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs).
In this context, the system also incorporates mechanisms for sensory stimulation of the foot, using vibration and expandable, customisable inflatable cells, which enable both active and passive stimulation and further promote neuromotor activation during the rehabilitation process.
Within the scope of the Project, multifunctional fibres and textile structures are also being developed for integration into the footwear solution, utilising the texturisation of structures through additive manufacturing techniques. These approaches help to enhance comfort, breathability, moisture management and the prevention of foot complications associated with reduced sensitivity.
More than a technological development, SENSATO incorporates experimental trials in rehabilitation environments with stroke survivors, involving patients and healthcare professionals throughout the development process to align solutions with users’ real needs.
