NGS - New Generation Storage is an Innovation Pact that aims to create a technological ecosystem in the Battery field, thus highlighting Portuguese Industry in the global market.

Aligned with the European Union's strategy for energy transition by 2040 and the challenge of full mobility electrification by 2035, this Project, which has CeNTI's know-how, promotes circularity as the key element to a more sustainable future.

There are 47 entities involved in the structural transformation of Portugal's production chain and in creating the necessary technological and human resource conditions to empower the sector. 

With its multisectoral expertise, the Centre for Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials plays a central role as one of NGS’s Scientific Coordinators, contributing to advancements across the entire battery value chain - from waste refining and valorisation to the development of active materials, components, cells, and modules. Additionally, it is engaged in the development of sensors, exploration of second-life applications for batteries, and implementation of mechanical and hydrometallurgical recycling processes.

To address these emerging challenges, CeNTI has technologically advanced pilot lines, which are fundamental for achieving the ambitious goals of the Pact.
