CeNTI -
CeNTI showcases innovation made in Portugal and wins award with Smart HardHat

CeNTI participated in leading international trade fairs, consolidating its role as a Technology and Innovation Centre in the fields of advanced and sustainable materials, applied nanotechnology, and smart systems.
On the 26th and 27th of February, the Centre took part in the LOPEC exhibition and conference, one of the most important international events on Flexible, Organic and Printed Electronics, held in Munich (Germany), promoting three Agendas dedicated to the development of disruptive technological solutions in the Construction and Health sectors:
- ILLIANCE, focused on developing intelligent, efficient, comfortable, and sustainable buildings;
- HfPT, aimed at advanced processes and products in the healthcare market;
- R2UTechnologies, centred on a new modular construction concept.
This event also hosted the OE-A Competition, which is annually organised by the Organic and Printed Electronics Association, where companies, research institutions, and universities present innovative projects and ideas. This year, CeNTI competed in the 'Prototypes & New Products' category with the Smart HardHat, developed in partnership with Innovation Point (DST Group) and DTx CoLab as part of the R2UTechnologies Innovation Pact. This innovation was the public's choice and won the Public Choice Award.
This personal protective equipment enables continuous risk assessment of the user’s exposure, preventing potential hazardous situations through monitoring vital user parameters and environmental conditions. Designed for industries, such as Construction and Mining, this next-generation hard hat combines an ergonomic design with advanced sensing technologies, which monitor and transmit, in real-time, data on location, heart rate, body temperature, falls, gas presence, noise level, and ambient temperature to a central platform. It also features a touch-sensitive SOS button for emergency alerts.

The journey of innovation and knowledge-sharing continued at JEC World from the 4th to the 6th of March, the leading international trade fair dedicated to Composite Materials and their applications. In Paris (France), CeNTI disseminated innovative composite solutions, focusing on sustainability and digitalisation, for applications across multiple sectors. The Centre participated with an exhibition stand in the Research & Innovation Projects area and gave a presentation on Sustainable and Smart Composites. A key highlight was the integration of sensing into these materials, enabling real-time structural performance monitoring, resource optimisation, and extended service life.
The Centre also participated in a panel discussion on developing and applying bio-based composites with thermoplastic films for a more sustainable future. It also organised a presentation on Sustainable and Intelligent Composites. All the information about this event is available HERE.
The Projects, promoted by the Centre at both events, are funded by the European Commission's Recovery and Resilience Facility.
