ActiVas: built environments for active and safe senior living
In response to the challenges posed by an ageing population, the ActiVas Project aimed to deliver disruptive solutions focused on the transformation and adaptation of built environments and spaces.
Comprising 6 PPS (Products, Processes and Services), ActiVas sought to develop a set of innovative and multidisciplinary solutions to promote an active, safe and healthy lifestyle for people aged over 65 years, enhancing their autonomy.
The consortium, led by the Portuguese company Kentra Technologies and bringing together the know-how of 12 companies and 8 R&D entities, including CeNTI, has defined a new concept for senior-friendly housing.
The innovation factor
Within the scope of the Project, several innovative sensors based on printed and flexible electronics were developed. These sensors were discreetly integrated into furniture and construction materials (ceramics and wood-based panels) to monitor a diverse range of essential parameters, including:
• Interaction: touch-based interfaces to trigger actions and alerts.
• Environment: monitoring of temperature, humidity and gases, as well as potential fire risk.
• Safety: water detection and potential flood risk.
The data collected are transmitted to a digital platform created specifically to collect and process this information.
Additionally, CeNTI contributed to the development of a functional, antimicrobial, and easy-to-clean coating, significantly enhancing hygiene and safety standards in residential spaces.
ActiVas focused on a new "senior-friendly" housing concept, aiming to create innovative and modular solutions that promote well-being and active ageing.
