Smart and Sustainable Solar Waterproof Membrane

The MI3S project aims to develop a solution that integrates solar electricity generation with roof waterproofing, combining ease of installation, durability and energy performance.

The solution also features photovoltaic technology combined with continuous monitoring systems, enabling performance monitoring and supporting maintenance throughout the system’s lifetime.

Main Goals/Activities

  • Develop a waterproof membrane with photovoltaic modules laminated directly onto its surface.

  • Produce a flexible solar module based on CIGS thin-film cells.
  • Develop and integrate sensors, namely temperature and humidity sensors, to monitor the degradation of both the photovoltaic panels and the membrane.

  • Develop and optimise the polymer–membrane lamination manufacturing process.
