LiBSafe

Improving the performance, safety and stability of lithium-ion batteries through enhanced materials and interfaces

The LiBSafe project aims to develop and optimise new interfaces between the different battery components, strengthening their efficiency, safety and stability, with a particular focus on lithium-ion batteries and more sustainable solid-state batteries.

Through the development and in-depth analysis of materials, innovative coatings for electrodes and interface components, combined with advanced simulation studies, the project seeks to enable the future large-scale production of these solutions, while simultaneously contributing to improved battery performance, stability and lifetime.

Main Goals/Activities

  • Develop new materials for safer and longer-lasting batteries.

  • Optimise interfaces and compatibility between battery components.

  • Create internal safety mechanisms, including self-healing and thermal shutdown functionalities.
  • Carry out advanced modelling and multiscale simulations to understand the behaviour of materials and interfaces.

  • Develop prototypes and validate performance under relevant operating conditions.

  • Ensure the sustainability, efficiency and industrial valorisation potential of the developed solutions.
