ChromiumLike - Development of chromium-free polymer-based automotive components with improved touch sensation (cold touch)

This project aims the development of innovative solutions allowing, without the use of chromium, to produce plastic components for the car interior, with a chrome effect for a more appealing aesthetic look and with improved performance in terms of feeling to the touch, producing a perception of metallic touch (cold touch).

Main Goals/Activities

  • Development of plastic components with improved properties in terms of touch sensation and aesthetics;

  • Development of plastic parts with a chrome appearance without the use of chromium (chromium free);
  • Reinforce research, technological development, and innovation.

Results

  • New functional composites with embedded nanoparticles of high thermal effusivity combined with chromium-free coatings, resulting in plastic-based substrates with chrome visual effect and cool touch;

  • Functionalised parts with high thermal effusivity nanostructured materials;

  • High performance substrates to improved cool touch and chromium-like effect;

  • Developed product performance and process implementation in regular injection and coating production lines for the manufacturing of coated plastic parts;

  • Participation in different events for project dissemination and communication.
