ACROSS

Adaptive Camouflage for soldiers and vehicles

The European project ACROSS aims to develop adaptive multispectral camouflage solutions, capable of adapting to different scenarios, focusing on two specific areas of protection systems: soldier and platform systems, addressing specific objectives and requirements.

The research will focus on a combination of innovative and current technologies using disruptive materials to achieve protection across multiple spectral ranges. Moreover, the project will develop adaptive camouflage techniques and devices capable of adjusting their signatures to the environmental scenario, surveillance sensors (mainly when active), different weather and daytime conditions, and threat level, hence reducing the ranges of detection, tracking, recognition, and identification, enhancing the survivability of soldiers and platforms.

ACROSS

Main Goals/Activities

  • Assessment, promotion and generation of emerging knowledge for adaptive camouflage on threats, requirements, techniques, materials, technologies, tools, and disruptive concepts to create new protection systems for soldier and platform;
  • Research, develop, evaluate, and select innovative materials and technologies, both active and passive, for adaptive camouflage;
  • Develop a hybrid structure through the combination of active and passive adaptive camouflage techniques for soldier and platform protection systems;
  • Conduct feasibility studies to explore the viability of new or improved materials, technologies, processes, and solutions for adaptive camouflage;
  • Design, build and test structures, components, and demonstrators under laboratory and field conditions for soldier and platform protection systems.
