European Commission recognises CeNTI as a Key Innovator

The Innovation Radar, a European Commission initiative that identifies technological solutions with high potential, distinguished CeNTI as a "Key Innovator" for its scientific contribution within the scope of the European ASINA Project.

Portuguese researchers played an active role in developing a process for producing antimicrobial textiles by spray coating application using nanomaterials. This approach was based on the SSbD - Safe and Sustainable by Design framework, which considers the implementation of sustainability and safety principles from the product design stage.

The new process minimises the use of chemicals and nanomaterials while maintaining the textile's performance and functionality, resulting in safer working conditions and a lower environmental impact. It is also a versatile process that is extendable to other industrial sectors that wish to leverage their products' safety and sustainability credentials.

About the ASINA Project

CeNTI's research is part of ASINA, a European Project that aimed to develop an innovative methodology - ASINA-SMM - with scientific guidelines for creating safer and more sustainable nano-enabled products from the design stage. ASINA-SMM combines and integrates digital tools and nanomaterials characterisation data.

Within the Project, a Roadmap was created (including guidelines, analytical tools and best practices) that manufacturers can easily adopt as a critical tool to promote the ASINA-SMM's dissemination and implementation in the industry.

About Innovation Radar

The Innovation Radar is a European Commission initiative designed to identify, evaluate and showcase innovations with high potential from research and innovation Projects funded by the European Union.

It intends to support innovative entities - such as small and medium-sized companies (SME), startups, universities and research centres - by helping them promote disruptive ideas in the market.

The solutions identified by the Innovation Radar are disseminated on a platform open to the public, allowing investors, companies and the community to discover new technologies and innovations developed across Europe.
