Development of Nanostructured Coatings for Functionalization of Auto Parts Surfaces

Co-funded by: -Co-funded by

Project i4REV aims the research and development of technological solutions for manufacturing of relevant components to the future of automotive industry, related with improvement of vehicle driving conditions and, as a direct consequence, the safety of both driver and passengers.

The challenges that this project intends to answer are centred around developing innovative solutions in the scope of nanostructured coatings by vacuum deposition technology, namely physical vapour deposition (PVD).

These coatings will endow polymeric and glass parts with advanced functionalities, such as anti-fog, anti-scratch, anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint, creating added value solutions for automotive industry.

Main goals

  1. Study and development of a new process, through combination of materials in a multilayer structure, for development of multifunctional coatings on polymeric and glass substrates;
  2. Improvement of durability, characterized by good adhesion and intended performance, of coatings currently applied, namely on plastics and on surface of entire 3D pieces;
  3. Study and characterization of morphological, physical, chemical, and optical properties of developed functional and nanostructured films, assessing their effect on desired surface properties.
