Video highlights ReInvent: innovative technology towards sustainability
CeNTI recently launched a video about ReInvent, an innovative Project created by an international consortium composed of 16 entities, in which the Nanotechnology Centre is the Portuguese representative. This highlights the objectives and potential applications of the developed technological products.
In addition to raising awareness to the current economic model, dependent on fossil-origin materials, the video emphasises that the valorisation of biomass and industrial by-products is the solution for a more sustainable and circular global economy.
It was in this context that ReInvent was born. The Project aims to transform the Construction and Automotive sectors by producing a new generation of biomaterials and natural fibres, which will replace fossil-based polyurethane (PUR) and components.
The bio-based foams will have improved functionalities such as high thermal insulation and mechanical performance, low density, flame retardancy, sound insulation and antifungal properties. In addition to these characteristics, the materials developed for the car interior will present other aesthetic features and improved thermal comfort/feeling.
The innovative products will then be applied to manufacture structural and insulation materials (used in the construction industry) and foams (for vehicle interiors).
The Project is funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme.
