How to promote greater efficiency in public water management?

Developed by Portuguese researchers, the Water Data Solutions Project (WDS) aims to respond to a double challenge: helping water management entities to be more efficient and raising awareness among end consumers for the responsible use of this resource.

In addition to creating a tool for managing and monitoring water supply systems, the researchers created a set of sensors to assess water quality and detect possible leaks.

A mobile application was also created for the end user, allowing daily water consumption monitoring and better knowledge about this resource use employing gamification methodologies.

The Project, which aims to "contribute to the sustainability and resilience of water distribution systems", was promoted by CeNTI, Wada Solutions, a company specialising in the water sector, and the University of Aveiro. CeNTI was responsible for developments related to sensing, hardware and communication systems, and associated prototyping.

WDS Project was co-financed by Portugal 2020, under the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization (COMPETE 2020) through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
